About THE artists-in-residence PROGRAM

Young Creatives: Artists-in-Residence Program

Theater, Visual Arts, Music or Dance

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is proud to offer the Young Creatives: Artists‐in‐Residence to Greater Lansing Area elementary schools. The AIR Program is designed to be either a supplemental art education experience for schools whose funding for the arts has been cut altogether, or an enrichment program to provide additional experiences and or bridge fine arts to core curriculum and best practices.

Statistics point to overall greater success in subjects like math, science, social studies and literacy when the arts are part of that learning.

The program pairs classroom teachers with professional artists for a five visit workshop series. These Arts Council members have expertise in one or more arts disciplines and have previously worked with children and teachers in educational settings.  You can find artists’ bios and lesson plan models in the Roster of Teaching Artists.  Please note that each artist will work directly with grade level teams to differentiate lesson planning to meet each school’s individual needs.

We strongly believe your students will receive significant benefits from participating in the Young Creatives: Artists-in-Residence Program. This will be an experience they will never forget!
